A-Rod watch 2008

July 26, 2007

images.jpgBefore recently, I’d always wondered why sports fans are always looking ahead to the following season, even though the current season is still in progress. Fans looking forward to free agency, the draft, or the next season.

I’ve finally bought in to the hype.

With all the speculation of whether A-Rod will opt-out of his contract with the Yankees after this season, I’ve been dreaming of seeing A-Rod as an Angel.

It can work. The Angels have the best owner in sports, Arte Moreno, and need offense much more than they need pitching. Can you imagine Vladimir Guerrero and Alex Rodriguez hitting back-to-back?

If the money’s about the same and you were A-Rod, where would you rather play, Anaheim or New York? The Yankee fans will never love him until he wins a World Series, which is too much for any one baseball player to do by himself. Angel fans, seeing the opportunity to add a big bat, will love him. Angel fans won’t boo him at every opportunity. We appreciate good baseball here.

I can’t wait until the defending champion Angels add A-Rod in the offseason.

Oh, c’mon G! That’ll be the defending champion Cubs adding A-Rod in the offseason!

We all know he wants to come play for Lou in Chicago, and gods know Cub fans love our players without World Series rings (perhaps even better than our players that do have them).

  2. Gilbert Says:

Would you rather play for a manager who is crazy and gets riled up about everything (Piniella) or a manger respected throughout the game as being one of the best strategically and in dealing with his players (Mike Scioscia)?

Though if Mark Cuban buys the Cubs, he might offer A-Rod like $50 million a year to play there.

  3. Becky Says:

Not that you’d know it over in AL-land, but Sweet Lou has gotten riled up one time all season. Once. And that, my friend, was when my Cubbies caught fire. Besides, Rodriguez has flat out said that he wants to play for Lou. You can’t argue that.

The only thing I’d like better than seeing Cuban buy the team is the Cubs winning a series before they get to that dreaded century mark.

  4. Gilbert Says:

Yeah, you’re right. Darn it. Those are good reasons for him going to the Cubs.

The Angels have the better team right now though. And the rally monkey — you can’t beat that.

Well, there was also the time when it seemed like Pinella was going to smack Barrett upside the head during the Dodgers series a few months ago, when Barrett tried to steal third.

That being said, Pinella may be nuts, but Yankees fans have been worse to A-rod then Pinella ever will be. On the other hand, A-rod may be so pissed at Yankee fans that he’s willing to move to 2nd and play for the mets. :)

Ok, Zambrano is now in the fold with the Cubs for the next 5 years…despite that, I still believe that the Cubs are in the ARod sweepstakes this coming off-season. The new owner will pony up the cash to acquire ARod and subplant him at SS. Since we’re in fantasy land here…let’s take this a tad further……let’s sign ARod and acquire Hanley Ramirez as well and move him to 2B…..how is this for a line up?
    LF Soriano
    2B Hanley Ramirez
    1B Lee
    SS ARod
    3B Aramis Ramirez
    RF Derosa
    C Kendall
