Make the first round best-of-7

I am really looking forward to the baseball playoffs this year, even more so than usual, because it looks like my Angels will more than likely be involved.

But one thing I don’t like is that the playoffs will take longer than usual this year, as the World Series will be starting on a Wednesday instead of the usual Saturday. As a result, all of the playoff games will be spread out even more, with many more off days during series.

During the season, teams are lucky to get one day off a week. So why should they be playing every other day in the playoffs?

A simple solution to this would be to make the first round best-of-7 instead of best-of-5 like it is now. There is really no good reason the first round is shorter than the other two rounds. They all count the same, and it’s a shame that a dominant team for 162 games can be eliminated in three.

Moving the World Series start to a Wednesday makes the playoffs four days longer — extending the first round could make up for two of them. It’s really not that hard.
