Links of the Day: Mascots!

newoaklandmascot.jpgThe nation’s newest mascot — Grizz, at Oakland University. Yes, as you longtime readers of OSQ have noticed, I have an unhealthy fascination with mascots. (Golden Grizzlies Hoops)

Speaking of mascots, vote for Joe Bruin in the Captial One Mascot Challenge!

I always thought it was pointless for the NCAA to retroactively punish teams for breaking the rules, like trying to take victories away from the 2005 Oklahoma football team. Not surprisingly, Oklahoma is fighting the decision. So basically, Oklahoma is trying to win games they already won that the NCAA says they lost, but thousands of people saw with their own eyes that they won. I love the NCAA. (Dreadnaught)

Jim Thome is getting close to 500 home runs. Here’s hoping he gets that mark before the end of the season, and that the Dugout comes out of retirement to blog about it. (Babes Love Baseball)

If David Beckham can’t play soccer, he might as well announce it. (Awful Announcing)

That Rutgers player’s lawsuit against Don Imus was dropped. Good, she was going a bit too far. (We Suck at Sports)

The NCAA has just ruled that Grizz is not the oldest mascot. (He actually is the oldest mascot, but because he had an after-school job at a car wash in Vacaville the NCAA is striping him of the title). The new oldest mascot: San Diego Chicken.

    Thanks for the ping
