Did the Patriots cheating help them that much?

Well, I know it’s a very small sample size, but based off of one game, it appears the Patriots are still a good team when they don’t videotape the opposing defense’s signals. They did win big on Sunday night 38-14 over what is supposed to be a good San Diego Chargers team.
Note that I’m not condoning what Bill Belichick and the Patriots did at all. Cheating is cheating and they deserved to be punished heavily for it. Belichick should’ve been suspended, not just fined. But if the Patriots have a great year — how much will we remember the cheating later on?

I think it only begs the question: if they’re that good without cheating, then why do they need to do it in the first place?
