karl_dorrell_on_sideline.jpgUsually, I’m not the kind of sports fan to take a loss hard. My teams have had some pretty bad losses over the years (Being an Angels, UCLA and Clippers fan contributes to that), but I can usually move on quickly and not think about it all day.

Saturday was different.

For those of you who missed it, UCLA lost to Utah 44-6. Yes, that’s right — the #11 team in the country got dominated not only against an 0-2 Utah team that was supposed to finish in the middle of its non-BCS conference, but was also without its starting quarterback, running back, and other key starters.

As the cliche goes, the game wasn’t even that close. UCLA’s offense couldn’t do anything at all, and Utah’s offense exposed the overhyped UCLA defense.

This was supposed to be the year UCLA would be one of the best teams in the country. They had 20 starters returning from a clearly talented team (remember the USC game?).

Saturday was just demoralizing to watch, so bad that the game was on my mind on and off the whole weekend.

Once again during the Karl Dorrell era, we got another frustrating loss. UCLA has much more talent than Utah, but the players clearly weren’t prepared and didn’t have good preparation or a gameplan.

That falls squarely on the coaches.

Dorrell is in his fifth year at UCLA. He’s not a rookie anymore, and he’s not using players other coaches recruited anymore. This is his team.

Dorrell needs to go. Not right this minute, but at the very latest, the Monday after the end of the regular season.

If he can’t win with all the talent he has this year, when is he going to do it?

I just can’t take it anymore. This probably wasn’t the most coherent rant in the world, but it’s all I can process right now.
