yorvit.jpgI’ve called this run the Rockies are on “ridiculous”. What’s beyond ridiculous? Incomprehensible? Baffling? Spectacular? I’ve run out of words.

The Colorado Rockies won Game 3 of the NLCS on Sunday night, 4-1. Josh Fogg got out of jam after jam, the Rockies’ bullpen was unhittable as usual and the Rockie hitter of the night was Yorvit Torrealba, who came through with a three-run homer.

No baseball team has ever amazed me and puzzled me as much as the Rockies. What are the odds of a team getting this hot at exactly the right time. What are the odds of a team winning 14 of 15 games to get into the playoffs (13 of 15 wouldn’t have cut it) AND reeling off six in a row in the postseason?

It wasn’t that long ago Torrealba was a light-hitting backup catcher that only hardcore baseball fans had heard of. Today, he’s a hero and he’s been leading this Rockies team to the brink of the World Series, hitting .381 in the postseason with 7 RBI and 3 extra-base hits.

If the Rockies win Game 4 tonight, they’ll advance to the World Series. That’s a sentence I didn’t think I’d be writing anytime soon. (And if the Rockies do win today, they’ll go nine days in-between games. That’s just wrong.)

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a baseball game played in front of a sell-out crowd where everyone was wearing parkas and raincoats. Maybe the Rockies will be playing in the snow in a couple of weeks.

At this point, nothing would surprise me.
