Let’s go Rockies!
October 22, 2007
That pretty much sums up what I’m feeling after Game 7 of the ALCS, which the Boston Red Sox won 11-2.
I do dislike the Red Sox (partly because I’m an Angels fan), but it’s not like I hate them with a passion. I say “Let’s go Rockies!” because the Red Sox have become another version of the Yankees. They’re dominant in recent years, they go out and spend money like it’s not an issue, and they’ve become over-hyped by major media. I don’t see how anyone who’s not already a Red Sox fan could possibly be rooting for the Red Sox in this series.
The Red Sox have all the history.
The Red Sox have the marquee players.
The Red Sox have to be the favorites.
The Red Sox have that really long World Series drought of three years.
The Red Sox have many annoying fans (I’m sure every team does, but there’s more Red Sox fans, meaning there’s more annoying Red Sox fans. Who doesn’t have an annoying Red Sox fan as a friend or acquaintance?)
The Rockies are a blank slate for most baseball fans. There’s nothing about them to hate, unless you’re a bitter Phillies, Diamondbacks are Padres fan.
The World Series starts on Wednesday.
Let’s go Rockies!
BCS thoughts — the computers don’t like OSU, and that’s OK
October 22, 2007
The 2nd release of the BCS standings has come out, and as expected, Ohio State and Boston College are #1 and #2.
Things I found interesting:
Despite the overwhelming majority of voters having Ohio State as #1, 4 of the 6 BCS computer rankings have Ohio State #3. All four of those have LSU ranked ahead of Ohio State. I actually don’t have a problem with that — Just because one team is 8-0 and the other is 7-1, that doesn’t mean the 8-0 team is better, especially if the 7-1 team has played a much tougher schedule than the 8-0 team.
The Pac-10 has two teams in the top 5 — neither of which are USC, Cal or UCLA (who the hell would’ve predicted that?). Arizona State’s unbeaten and Oregon’s played a tough schedule, so they both deserve to be there.
