I wanted Dorrell to succeed.

I wanted him to learn and improve as a coach, because that would result in more wins. I didn’t come to conclusion he should be fired until after last season.

But Dorrell never proved me wrong like I hoped he would. He never did adjust as a coach, and kept making the same mistakes again and again.

Yesterday was not a day to celebrate for UCLA fans. It was a day to be relieved, knowing that for the first time in years, UCLA has the chance to establish itself as a football power with the right hire.

I hope Dorrell does well in his next job, and I hold no ill will towards him. I believe he gave the job his best effort. He just wasn’t very good at it.

Later on this week, I’ll start a series called something like “Getting to know your coaching candidates”, where I’ll take a closer look at a lot of the guys rumored to be up for the UCLA job (and other jobs).

And I know I’ve posted a lot about UCLA lately — this isn’t a UCLA-only blog, but I’m a UCLA fan, I will post a lot about them.

I’ll have more on the baseball winter meetings later, when I’m not nearly as busy.
