Huge conflict of interest at ESPN
January 11, 2008
Ever wonder why the Reggie Bush investigation seems to be overlooked by ESPN even though it is being covered by other major media outlets?
Well, as The Big Lead points out, David Cornwell, Bush’s attorney, is also a legal consultant for ESPN. If that’s not a major conflict of interest, I don’t know what is. I’m not saying that ESPN is purposefully downplaying the Bush story because of this, but just the appearance that it could be happening is really bad for journalism reasons.
Let’s see how this plays out after the Tarnished Heisman book is released on Tuesday. I plan to buy it that day and hope to have a review of it sometime next week.
How do you only score 20 points in a game?
January 11, 2008
In college basketball 20 points is a bad half. Imagine scoring 20 points over an entire game? That’s what St. Louis did on Thursday night, losing to George Washington 49-20.
St. Louis shot 7-for-48 from the field (14.6%), was 1-for-19 (5.3%) from three-point land and their leading scorer had only five points. They had only seven points in the first half (13 in the 2nd) and their starting five combined for only 11 points. George Washington blocked 11 shots and had nine steals, also contributing to St. Louis getting only 20 points.
Even crazier is St. Louis has a winning record at 9-6 overall (0-1 in the Atlantic 10), and their previous low point total this season was 39 against Boston College. They’ve scored 80 points three times this season, managed only 20 in this game.
What an epically bad performance. The article says it’s the lowest point total in the modern era, and I can’t think of anything worse than this. 20 points in a game is pretty bad.
Think Rick Majerus regrets not staying at USC?
