What a game
February 4, 2008
That was one of the most exciting Super Bowls I’ve ever seen.
I came into the game expecting a blowout by the Patriots. Instead, we had the Giants outplay the Patriots.
That Giant defense was incredible. And Eli Manning has been fooling us all along, maybe he really is a great quarterback. I hope I never forget that play he made to David Tyree on the game-winning drive — a great job by Eli to avoid the sack, and an amazing catch as well. If this wasn’t the biggest Super Bowl upset of my lifetime, I don’t know what was.
56 days ’til Opening Day
February 4, 2008
There are 56 days left until that best day of the year, MLB Opening Day.
56, of course, is famous in baseball for being the number of consecutive games Joe DiMaggio had a hit streak going back in 1941. It’s a record, and no one’s really been close since. The 10-longest streaks since 1941:
56 Joe DiMaggio (1941)
44 Pete Rose (1978)
39 Paul Molitor (1987)
38 Jimmy Rollins (2005-06)
37 Tommy Holmes (1945)
35 Chase Utley (2006)
35 Luis Castillo (2002)
34 Dom DiMaggio (1949)
34 Benito Santiago (1987)
31 4 tied
Seeing how no one’s been close, odds are DiMaggio will have that record for a very long time.
