Blogger Fantasy Baseball anyone?
February 7, 2008
Yahoo! has already started allowing signups for fantasy baseball.
I’ve thought about creating a league just for bloggers. Anyone interested?
My only requirements:
1) You have to blog at least a little about baseball. (Update: And I mean a little. Palaver counts, and they focus mostly on the Dan Patrick Show)
2) You promise to check your team an average of at least once per week (and by check, I mean just log in for like a minute or two — I’m not asking for much here).
If you’re interested, either post in the comments or e-mail me at obscuresportsquarterly@gmail.com. I’ll give you the league info. First dibs go to anyone who sees this here (I’ll e-mail invites to other bloggers in the next couple of weeks).
And obviously, since the season is still pretty far away, I haven’t decided on any league settings or anything — this is all very flexible.
53 days ’til Opening Day
February 7, 2008
There are 53 days left until that best day of the year, MLB Opening Day.
53 is also the number of at-bats David Wells had in 2007. Why am I bringing up at bats by a pitcher? Well, Boomer provided one of the most exciting at bats I’ve ever seen, when the big guy got a bunt single in a game back in August. He ran it out and legitimately beat the throw too.
There is still video of it on MLB.com’s profile page for Wells (do a find in this page for “bunt single”). If you haven’t seen it before, you must.
Wells, of course, is more famous for his great pitching career and being overweight than he is for his bunt single. He has 239 career wins and pitched a perfect game in 1998.
Wells, 44, is currently a free agent, and while he is still interesting in playing according to Rotoworld, no one seems to be interested in signing him. Here’s hoping Wells surfaces somewhere this season.
