You stay classy, Washington
February 11, 2008
Toward the end of yesterday’s UCLA-Washington game I saw one of the most classless, indefensible plays I’ve ever seen. Tim Morris, not being able to find anyone to inbound the ball to, threw the ball really hard right at Alfred Aboya’s face.
Horrible.
I would completely understand if Morris threw the ball at Aboya’s legs or feet. That happens all the time, and is considered a smart play.
The head is a different story. There’s a major reason athletes wear helmets in other sports — you don’t want to mess with head injuries of any sort at all.
Note: This isn’t sour grapes at the outcome of the game. UCLA deserved to lose that game the way they played. But that doesn’t mean one of their players should be intentionally hit in the face by a large object.
Hat-tip to Gutty Little Bruins for finding the video.

EXACTLY. I just responded to a commenter using that same logic. The legs? No prob. Arms? S’all good. Torso? Even then, fair game. But right in the face???
Jeez. And to hear how Alfred responded saying it was no big deal…man that guy oozes class (class that I wouldn’t have in the same situation, btw)

Alfred has much more class than you and I blackjack.
I’d like to think I would’ve responded like Aboya did and just go back to playing the game. But I probably wouldn’t have.
