wooden.jpgJohn Wooden was interviewed by the AP, and here’s what he had to say:

“[Two] years ago, we were in the Final Four and we finished second. Last year, we were third. Seems logical to be first this year, don’t you think?

I’m certainly not going to disagree with him.

More importantly, Wooden is back at home after stints at the hospital and a rehab center:

“I’m still having trouble getting around,” he said. “Nothing to do with my fall, but my knees have been very, very bad. I use a walker and a wheelchair. Overall, I’m very fortunate at 97.”

Opening Day thoughts

April 1, 2008

This was one of the most entertaining things to happen on Opening Day: (Hat-tip to Awful Announcing for finding the video)

I know it’s just one game (that the Brewers won in extras), and Eric Gagne will very likely rebound from this and have a great season. But combine that blown save with the way Gagne ended last season, and the questionable fat contract given to him by the Brewers, and that had to raise a few eyebrows.

I also thoroughly enjoyed Kansas City’s 11-inning win over Detroit in which a runner on each team was thrown out at home. It’s fun to see the Royals start the season on a positive note, let them have hope for one day in what will probably be a tough, long season.

As for the Angels, it’s not good to see them lose, especially when they can’t score off of Livan Hernandez and Garret Anderson seems lost in left field. But I’m not getting worked up about one loss yet, especially when I’m just glad to see them play again.

Baseball season — it’s here.
