Obscure Sports Quarterly is a sports blog, with a heavy emphasis on Angels baseball and UCLA sports. The blog is edited by Gilbert with occasional contributions from Ben.
How the blog started: After years as a college journalist and a freelance sports writer, Gilbert got a real job and started this blog as a place for him to continue writing about sports.
Gilbert used to blog about the Angels at the excellent baseball blog Bugs & Cranks.
About the blog name: In the movie Dodgeball, Gordon finds out about the dodgeball tournament after reading the magazine Obscure Sports Quarterly. After watching a repeat of that movie, I thought “hey, that would be a great blog name”.
Other weird things you’ll notice about the blog: I have an unhealthy obsession with the term “passion bucket”, first coined by UCLA football coach Rick Neuheisel on the Dan Patrick Show. (Etymology explained at a blogging-friend of OSQ, Palaver) I love mascots too.
Sports you’ll probably see the most covered most here:
1) baseball
2) college football
3) college basketball
4) the other major sports
5) college baseball/softball

Dude you ripped off the name to talk about baseball?..?..? there is virtually no mention of actual “obscure” sports. I got a sport you’ve never heard of streetboarding or snakeboarding.. NO not skateboarding or those wiggly pieces of crap at walmart and kmart, a real properly obscure sport.. do the research. AND be ashamed you stole such a cool name to talk about a sport that is going nowhere and is a hundred years old.

I am currently the editor of the blog Athlists.com . In an effort to expand our site, we’ve been going to similar sites in hopes of trading spaces on our blog roll. Our site has been featured on Yahoo! Sports, Deadspin, Metafilter, and frequents the front page of Digg and Reddit.
Thanks,
